Château Léoville Barton - Saint-Julien - Red - 2018 :
Château Léoville Barton: Classic Claret from a Legendary Estate
As a Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) in the 1855 Classification, Château Léoville Barton represents the pinnacle of Saint-Julien winemaking. This historic estate, one of the few to remain in the same family (the Bartons) since the classification, consistently delivers a wine of remarkable poise, structure, and incredible longevity. It is the definition of a classic claret.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep ruby-garnet, reflecting concentration and age-worthiness.
- Bouquet: A noble, complex nose of concentrated black fruit (cassis, dark cherry), intertwined with classic Médoc notes of cigar box, lead pencil, and a hint of minty freshness.
- Flavour: Elegant and beautifully defined on the palate. The structure is firm-a hallmark of Saint-Julien-with fine-grained, persistent tannins that carry the dark fruit and subtle oak through to a very long, mineral-driven finish. A wine of immense class and cellar potential.
Food Match & Decanting
This wine demands a hearty, traditional match. It is designed to age; young vintages benefit greatly from 2-3 hours of decanting to soften the tannins and allow the bouquet to fully evolve. Serve at cellar temperature, 17-18°C.
