The Finest Saint-Estèphe Claret: Phélan Ségur
Château Phélan Ségur represents the apex of Saint-Estèphe winemaking, consistently outperforming its non-classified status. Located on the northern Médoc’s deep clay-gravel terroir, this estate focuses on creating wines of impeccable structure and aromatic purity. Under the dedicated stewardship of the current owners, Phélan Ségur has become a benchmark for elegance and longevity on the Left Bank.
Tasting Notes (Typical Vintage)
- Colour: A deep, concentrated garnet, showing great density.
- Bouquet: A complex array of classic Saint-Estèphe aromas: intense black fruit (cassis), graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle spicy oak.
- Mouthfeel: Muscular yet beautifully balanced. The tannins are firm and confident, offering great grip, but are enveloped by rich, dense black fruit. A sustained, elegant finish with notes of dark chocolate and crushed stone.
Serving Suggestion
A classic, age-worthy claret. We recommend cellaring for a few years or decanting for a minimum of 90 minutes when enjoyed young. This wine is best served with traditional British game or a Sunday roast, allowing its firm structure to meet the richness of the meat.
