Château Tronquoy-Lalande: A Modern Saint-Estèphe Classic
Château Tronquoy-Lalande, recently streamlined to Château Tronquoy for its latest releases, is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur punching well above its weight in the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation. Under the ownership of the Bouygues family (of Château Montrose fame), the estate has undergone a multi-million-euro renovation, focusing on precision and sustainability. The vineyard's clay-rich gravel soils are perfectly suited to its blend, resulting in a wine that captures the robust, age-worthy character of the Médoc while offering a softer, more elegant texture than is traditionally found in Saint-Estèphe.
Tasting Notes & Character
- Colour: Dark, deep ruby/purple.
- Aroma: Rich and intense, featuring primary notes of cassis, black cherry, and raspberry coulis, beautifully framed by secondary aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, and sweet spice from the French oak.
- Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied, well-balanced, and fleshy. The structure is built around ripe, powdery tannins that are remarkably polished. A thread of salinity and freshness gives the wine real character and lift, making it attractive in its youth but guaranteeing a long life in the cellar.
Food & Cellaring Advice
Perfect for a celebratory dinner. Best served at a cool cellar temperature (15.5°C). This wine is ready for mid-term drinking pleasure but will reward cellaring for up to 20 years in top vintages. Pair with hearty dishes to complement its structured tannins.
