Château Côte de Baleau: The Quintessential Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

A jewel of Bordeaux's Right Bank, Château Côte de Baleau was elevated to Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé status in 2012. The estate is currently owned by the Cuvelier Family and benefits from a superb clay-limestone terroir, typical of the finest Saint-Émilion properties, with consultation from the highly influential oenologist Michel Rolland.

This Merlot-dominant blend is a masterclass in elegance and power. The high percentage of Merlot gives it a signature plumpness and silky mouthfeel, while the Cabernet components ensure a firm, age-worthy structure. The winemaking focuses on moderate extraction and French oak maturation to achieve a harmonious and polished final product.

Tasting Notes

• Colour: A deep, opulent garnet, hinting at its concentration.
• Nose: Richly aromatic, displaying layers of dark fruit (plum, cassis, black cherry) intertwined with complex savoury notes of cedar, leather, and a whisper of cocoa.
• Palate: Full-bodied yet beautifully refined. The tannins are powdery and smooth, providing backbone without harshness. The wine is perfectly balanced, showcasing an elegant progression to a lengthy, flavourful finish.

Pairing & Service

For immediate enjoyment, a 60-minute decant is highly recommended. Serve at 16°C-18°C. This wine is built to last and will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar for well over a decade.
